I caught her on a park bench, making out with a *chaos* demon! Have you ever seen a chaos demon? They're all slime and antlers.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Why don't I have cookies?

Why do I have a stomach ache?

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Ugh. What's wrong with, "The square root of a negative number is called an imaginary number. In this section, we will only deal with square roots of non-negative numbers."

Math is just too rich and fabulous for their little brains. We lie to them to protect them...from, among other things, an early fascination with the impossible as rendered by formal systems.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

The Science of Discworld authors label that kind of math teaching "lies for children", because you have to dumb knowledge down into more-easily digested chunks until the facts as presented are pretty inaccurate. If you are smart, you leave enough wiggle room that when you come back to it later, you can expand on what you said in previous grades without too much backtracking.

AmyLiz, re: 24, if memory serves, he's not a bad guy. You know, yet, or whatever. You know how it goes. He was her ex, and I guess he's no longer an ex, and she called him in to help with something last year. Looks like he stuck .
