I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

I restarted and gmail problems are gone. The page wasn't even loading for me for some reason.

I blame Owen.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Good chance, tommy, good chance.

TiVo suggestions question. What should I delete without watching? Which should I let lie around until I get to them, or they get deleted? Which are a definite watch?

  • The Howling
  • The Last Starfighter
  • A Walk in the Clouds
  • The Understanding series on Discovery (Skyscrapers, Universe, Tunnels)

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

"The Last Starfighter" is kind of a geek-cred movie.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

As a fan of The Last Starfighter ever since it was released, definitely watch that one! Robert Preston is just great as the interstellar conman.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

"The Last Starfighter" is kind of a geek-cred movie.

I saw "The Last Starfighter" when it came out (a few years after Star Wars, right?) I remember thinking "This is a total Star Wars ripoff." That was before I found out it was a Seven Samurai ripoff.

OK, maybe "ripoff" is too harsh. Now I'm curious if I'd like it if I saw it now.

eta: Or am I confusing TLS with something else?

brillig

I think "The Howling" is one of the classic, genuinely scary modern werewolf movies.

Looks like my TiVo likes me.

Time Warner, OTOH, does not. The channel listing in effect is only mostly like the one they tell me (and the TiVo service). So Dirt was not recorded last night, and I'm not even sure where to find FX again.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I think "The Howling" is one of the classic, genuinely scary modern werewolf movies.

Plus it has a ton of b-movie greats and "oh it's that guy/gal" actors. Any of the sequels are to be avoided like the plague, though.

Ah. I was thinking of Battle Beyond the Stars. Somehow that got conflated in my mind with The Last Starfighter.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

I think you're confusing "The Last Starfighter" with "Battle of the Planets", which was both a "Seven Samurai" and "Star Wars" ripoff.
