Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

"The Last Starfighter" is kind of a geek-cred movie.

I saw "The Last Starfighter" when it came out (a few years after Star Wars, right?) I remember thinking "This is a total Star Wars ripoff." That was before I found out it was a Seven Samurai ripoff.

OK, maybe "ripoff" is too harsh. Now I'm curious if I'd like it if I saw it now.

eta: Or am I confusing TLS with something else?

brillig

I think "The Howling" is one of the classic, genuinely scary modern werewolf movies.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Looks like my TiVo likes me.

Time Warner, OTOH, does not. The channel listing in effect is only mostly like the one they tell me (and the TiVo service). So Dirt was not recorded last night, and I'm not even sure where to find FX again.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I think "The Howling" is one of the classic, genuinely scary modern werewolf movies.

Plus it has a ton of b-movie greats and "oh it's that guy/gal" actors. Any of the sequels are to be avoided like the plague, though.

Ah. I was thinking of Battle Beyond the Stars. Somehow that got conflated in my mind with The Last Starfighter.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

I think you're confusing "The Last Starfighter" with "Battle of the Planets", which was both a "Seven Samurai" and "Star Wars" ripoff.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

I love TLS. I think that it's not a Seven Samurai ripoff, more of a King Arthur/Sword in the Stone ripoff.

No! I didn't. Probably because whatever happened no doubt happened while I Had No Power.

I wasn't in the office on Friday, when it happened, but I can see it from here. Between this and all the trees down in Stanley Park, I am quite ready for some calmer weather.

OK, in 80s kid-friendly movies trivia, what was that one where they have to build a spaceship? With a trashcan, or out of one? Or something? I think there's some goofy looking aliens involved, but I'm not sure.

You can see how good I am at describing movies...

Are you confusing "Battle of the Planets" with "Battle Beyond the Stars"?

I just googled Seven Samurai scifi and found it....
