Why is it that sometimes my battery gives me 2 minutes/ % and sometimes, like now, barely 1 minute/%. And I'm not using it any differently.

Usually after one of these short battery life things, it goes back to the usual 2m/%.

It's just weird.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Is there a utility that will go through my iTunes library and delete duplicate files? My "Music" folder is 35GB but iTunes claims to only have 15GB, so I must have duplicated the entire library at some point (and then probably deleted songs w/o deleting the media).

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

do you want dups deleted in Itunes or on your hard drive?

I happen to like dupeguru, but it is not free. It works well at finding duplicates.

On the hard drive. My laptop's hard drive is 50GB smaller than the old G5 so I need to delete whatever I can before I migrate.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

If you're using a Mac, there are AppleScripts that'll do that. (lemme know if you want the ULR)

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

I think the Applescript is for within Itunes - not the hard drive.

Oh duh. I reread Jessica's post - yeah, if iTunes doesn't know about the dupes then the script won't work.

Need more coffee....

Ooh - here's an AppleScript that might work:

List Music Folder Files Not Added v2.0

This script recursively searches user-selected folders for files not added to iTunes and creates a text file listing their file paths. Optionally, this text file can be saved as a M3U file and imported by iTunes to add the found files. Requires Mac OS 10.4 or better.

I guess you could use the text file listing to create a bunch of delete commands.
