And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I had no such luck this weekend - DH and I went to 4 electronics stores (2 Targets, Circuit City and PC Richards) and nobody had anything decent in stock. The guy at Target apologetically said "We have the Magnavox!" Um, thanks, but...no.

So next stop is to call J&R and see what they have in stock. If that doesn't pan out, I call my guy at B&H and see if he can extend our corporate rate to me as a personal favor.

Thrive to spite them

I was going to say I don't think it does, but I searched for bluetooth and it seems it does.

So I could just use a BT ear thing to talk via skype?

I have done that with my Mac. You need to pair the computer with the headset, then in Skype, select it as your mic & speaker of choice.

How does that work with listening to music while using the headset for chatting?

If it's a mac, your music should play out your default audio output. If it's Windows, I am not sure.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Does anyone know if it's possible to use a VCR with a digital converter? So far I've only gotten the converter to work when connected directly to the tv.

Yes, I'm using ancient electronics, but I'm disinclined to replace things that still work.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

In Vista I used to use Windows Explorer for my FTP client. Suddenly (you know) typing an FTP URL into the address bar opens Firefox. So I go into Associations and change it--I hav the choice of Opera, IE, and Firefox. I choose IE. Now typing the URL into the bar opens Opera. If I go into IE it doesn't help much--it's still treating the directories like web pages, as I had feared.

How do I get Windows Explorer back on the job?

P-C, did you buy the camera yet? Today's Woot is a Kodak Easyshare 8.1MP Digital Camera with 12x Optical Zoom for $110. No clue how good/bad it is. But it's a lot of optical zoom for a P&S.
