In Vista I used to use Windows Explorer for my FTP client. Suddenly (you know) typing an FTP URL into the address bar opens Firefox. So I go into Associations and change it--I hav the choice of Opera, IE, and Firefox. I choose IE. Now typing the URL into the bar opens Opera. If I go into IE it doesn't help much--it's still treating the directories like web pages, as I had feared.
How do I get Windows Explorer back on the job?

P-C, did you buy the camera yet? Today's Woot is a Kodak Easyshare 8.1MP Digital Camera with 12x Optical Zoom for $110. No clue how good/bad it is. But it's a lot of optical zoom for a P&S.
do you think that is a good value for someone who basically wants to take snapshots of her cat and of knitting sewing projects, as well as ebay

ita, did it make any difference which browser you had set as the default browser at the time?
I have Vista Home Premium, and IE7 is set as my default browser, even though I ususally use Chrome or Firefox for actual browsing.
I can invoke Windows Explorer with either Start->Computer or just Windows+E. When I enter an ftp address into the address bar, it comes up in the same window. When I use IE7 and enter the same ftp address, it comes up fine in that window, but there is message text at the top: "To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer, click Page, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer."
I take it you were getting a different result. Correct?

Opera's been default on this box the whole time.

Will you look at that? I missed that line entirely. I saw a hyperlink and just exited the application.
I still can't duplicate Windows Explorer's initial (proper) behaviour, but at least I have a couple workarounds now. Thanks for pointing that out!
ita, in IE, Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab
Under "Browsing" section, make sure "Enable FTP folder view (outside of Internet Explorer)" and "Use Passive FTP (for firewall and DSL modem compatibility)" are checked. See if that gets Windows Explorer to behave again.

Okay one more question, using the bluetooth thing could that only be used for Skype or voice chat through MSN or could it be used as a mic for computer games?
