Not yet, but shouldn't at least the light go on, even if there's no monitor connected? What the heck, I'll give it a try.

Well blow me down! That seems to be it! I'll try double checking the monitor connections and the HDMI/DVI cord (it has a VGA connection; I'll try that too). Damn, I hope I don't have to return it. I hate dealing with mail order returns.

Yeah, fans should come on, computer should go through BIOS and attempt to boot....
Did you plug the new monitor into the power supply of the new computer? I wouldn't think that'd matter, as I'd think that 120V output would come directly from the 120V input and not be part of the power supply's listed capacity, but maybe there's a fuse for the whole thing?
All I can think of to suggest is to swap in a different power supply (don't take Slade's) and see if it works then.
The next step, of course, would be to plug the new monitor into a different computer.
The monitor was plugged into its own outlet on my power strip; it's not plugged into the computer's power supply. I'll try a few things and report back...
In that case I think it's probably coincidental that the power supply failed when you first connected the new monitor.
Oh, did you change graphics cards or anything like that before trying the new monitor?

I don't want to panic anyone, but I don't like the smell of this, coming right after the news of the LJ-layoff.
Currently, I can't see either my journal or my friends page.
Update: The monitor works when connected via VGA. I also swapped the monitor power cable. Next step: try the HDMI/DVI cable again.
LJ is back for me.
Me too.
Tech hivemind question for the Mac laptop users: Have any of y'all ever received a failure message while trying to burn CDs that's something along the lines of "failure to calibrate the laser level for this media?"
I've had it happen with both Word docs and trying to burn music, so it seems as if it's the drive itself rather than what I'm trying to burn.
This is a problem I've had off and on ever since I bought this laptop a year ago and when I've taken it in to the Genius Bar, it of course behaves perfectly. Bastard. This is literally the first Mac in more than a half dozen, that I've ever had an ongoing problem with.
Anyone? Thoughts?
