So, restarting iTunes has not solved this problem:
"The iPod could not be synced. The required file could not be found."
Any other suggestions?
t eta Restore seems to be working - let's hope it keeps on trucking.

Argggh! I just got a huge new monitor (25.5") for my new 'puter that's been working like a charm since I built it from parts a few weeks ago. I shut down the computer, attached the new monitor, and hit the startup button and... nothing! No cpu fan, no hum, and certainly no beep. WTF? I checked and rechecked all the connections, opened up the case to look for any loose wires, but I can't find anything wrong. Could the power supply have crapped out so completely? Any suggestions on things to look for or test?
Did you try putting back the old monitor?
Not yet, but shouldn't at least the light go on, even if there's no monitor connected? What the heck, I'll give it a try.
Well blow me down! That seems to be it! I'll try double checking the monitor connections and the HDMI/DVI cord (it has a VGA connection; I'll try that too). Damn, I hope I don't have to return it. I hate dealing with mail order returns.

Yeah, fans should come on, computer should go through BIOS and attempt to boot....
Did you plug the new monitor into the power supply of the new computer? I wouldn't think that'd matter, as I'd think that 120V output would come directly from the 120V input and not be part of the power supply's listed capacity, but maybe there's a fuse for the whole thing?
All I can think of to suggest is to swap in a different power supply (don't take Slade's) and see if it works then.
The next step, of course, would be to plug the new monitor into a different computer.
The monitor was plugged into its own outlet on my power strip; it's not plugged into the computer's power supply. I'll try a few things and report back...
In that case I think it's probably coincidental that the power supply failed when you first connected the new monitor.
Oh, did you change graphics cards or anything like that before trying the new monitor?

I don't want to panic anyone, but I don't like the smell of this, coming right after the news of the LJ-layoff.
Currently, I can't see either my journal or my friends page.
