And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

According to the keynote, making it non-removable was the trade-off for the 8 hour battery life.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Our wings are not tired

So, why does Apple think it is a good concept to have a non-removable battery? Does anyone have information about this?

I'm a pretty serious power user, I've owned easily a dozen Mac Laptops, from the 145b up to my current. I have only had spare batteries on the very earliest models. On the past half a dozen machines I've never removed the battery. I suspect that my behavior is close to the norm for most users. The removable battery seems like a nice thing, but most people never ever use it.

Also, those bastards want me to pay an additional $50 for a matte display. Either way I'll probably be preordering shortly.

I foresee a gizmo that has a maglock connection, and a rechargeable battery brick to it.

Am loving iTunes going DRM-free.

I assume that doesn't apply to what one has already purchased, or does it?

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

The removable battery seems like a nice thing, but most people never ever use it.

I would say that 90% of the times I've removed the battery from my laptops it's been to crash it when it's frozen or otherwise fucked. I understand that that's not such an issue for the Mac users among us. But never?

Never fall in love with somebody you actually love.

brenda, holding down the power button on a laptop for about 5-10 seconds kills the power completely, so you shouldn't need to take the battery out. Of course, I'm open to corrections.

megan, nah. Apparently for a small charge you can redownload the songs with DRM removed.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I've had my current iBook for 9 years now, and I don't think I've ever taken the battery out. The computer's getting a tad wonky now, but after 9 years of steady use and abuse I'm amazed it still turns on.
