Oh good, I'm going to do the same thing. I assumed I'd just misread and the $10.47 was per year.

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
um. Bait and switch? Dude. That could be bad. What did they think, it would go unnoticed? It's the web! A deal like that amongst computer folk is bound to go viral!
So the rumor is that Apple is going to introduce a new 17" MacBook, except that it won't have a removable battery.
So when the battery dies the whole thing is done?
MacRumors had also heard that the 17" MacBook Pro will contain a non-removable battery, so we feel this information is well corroborated. In exchange for this, the new MacBook Pro's battery is said to be longer lasting. 9to5mac's Seth Weintraub says the new battery will last up to 50% longer and speculates Apple could be exploring the use of Silver-Zinc which we previously explored.
Well, the "lasts up to 50% longer" mitigates things somewhat, but to my mind it's still not a great idea....
edit to add weasel-phrase "up to"
Presumably, you would have to pay someone to take the computer apart and replace the battery for you.
What about those long trips where you want to swap batteries? That is an objection of mine with iPods and iPhone.

Ya, very cool. But will it charge the new laptops?

ND is going to be so happy if this is true. He's been holding on to his old 17" laptop a lot longer than usual in hopes that a new version was coming.
