Thanks Daniel. That found me some files, but yet, not ones that make sense with the amnesia of this morning. Alas.
Also, it's pretty unlikely that in my half-assed backups that I saved these hidden files.

spoke too soon. Found one from a couple days ago and we're all back. Thank you!
Hey Eddie, and those that were helping with ubuntu--that link you sent me totally looked like it was the problem, but I couldn't get the fix to work. Oh well. I've finally been able to back up all my files and music, so I'm getting ready to wipe the drive clean and start off fresh with kubuntu. This time, no transparency stuff.
follow-up: Anyone know a way to install itunes on a machine where you don't have administrator rights? I think it can be done, but I just can't figure out how.
SA, I don't think it can be done.
It's okay, I found a workable solution. YamiPod lets me copy music on and off the ipod, and is portable with the ipod. No installation required. A little buggy, but infinitely useable.
This is my new phone: [link]
It's pretty cool for a prepaid cell service. It flips open to expose a qwerty keyboard (or I can use the numeric keypad on the outside). It can send text messages to email accounts and has a web browser. There is also a simplified front-end to gmail. And it has mobile AIM service (which I probably won't use).
hey, that looks pretty cool.
Can you read Buffistas.org on it?
Can you read Buffistas.org on it?
Yes. It is someone of a PITA in that I have to scroll past all the stuff on the left of b.org to get to the posts, but it works OK. And it remembers my login. I've used it to read Natter, and posted a few times....
Only $100, too.
Hey! I have VirginMobile, so I could switch over to that phone.
