I have a Brother inkjet that I've used once a month, at most, and have had for about 6 months, and I've had no trouble with it. It prints beautifully and I haven't had any difficulty with the ink smearing or anything. It's the multi whatsis, Brother MFC-240C (scanner, copier, fax, printer) and it was on clearance for $100.00.

Omnis, do you use magnetic ink for your check printing? Versa Check (gp7.com) gives a printer with the purchase of magnetic ink and check blanks. The lowest end one is a bit of a pain in that the paper wiggles a bit, but it's working acceptably well for a free printer.

I've killed multiple inkjet printers through lack of use. Have one in my closet now and one barely working on the table.

I should really get a laser one.

I've been happy with my Brother MFC 440.

If I printed more than 1 check a month, it might be worth it, but, I don't think so. Interesting tho. The website is g7ps.com if anyone else is interested.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Having trouble with my Final Cut Studio installation. After I enter the serial #, it tells me that this is an upgrade & I need to enter my original serial #. When I do that, it tells me the original # is invalid and won't let me continue.

I'm going to call Applecare as soon as they open, but does anyone have any suggestion in the meantime?

My worry is that my supervisor bought the wrong version - we have Final Cut Studio 1.whatever installed now, but the outside of the box says "Upgrade from Final Cut Pro or Production Suite." I really hope there isn't another box that says "Upgrade from Final Cut Studio." (Or that if there is, I can just get a different serial # from Applecare and make the error message go away.)

[eta: Shit, that is EXACTLY what happened. Which also means this box cost $200 more than it needed to. GRRR. Fingers crossed I can just exchange serial #s and don't have to send it back. SO ANNOYING.]

Would the same apply to an upgrade?

I imagine so.

So, am I just blind, or did several controls from the iTunes Preferences disappear with the new update? Like, how to change the settings for music importing, or the ability to make the iTunes Store arrows next to every single track not be displayed?

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

The import settings moved -- they're on the front page of the prefs now where it asks you what to do with CDs, instead of buried on the advanced tab (which IMO is a good thing, but disconcerting if you knew where to look before). No idea about the arrow thingy since I never realized it was there before.

There's still no way to delete unused genre categories, right?

Seriously, did a 19-year-old club kid pick those?
