Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
None of us here at work have had any problems going from Tiger -> Leopard. (Although one cow-orker had a hell of a time getting the Vista side of a dual-boot setup to recognize its registration code.)
The usual upgrade advice (have a backup!) always applies, but it's been spooky smooth for a good half-dozen of us who've upgraded a range of models, plus a handful of installs on new machines.
No experience with FCS2.
have y'all looked at the google home page today? They got the Google getting sucked into a black hole from the LHC. Rather entertaining, I thought.
thank you for explaining that image. I had no idea WTF that was.
Does anyone here have a Blackberry Curve? If so, do you like it, and does it have any trouble loading websites that have a lot of data on them?
Assuming FCS is Final Cut Studio, the only thing to watch out for about the archive install is that there's many gigabytes of data files that FCS installs in /System/Library/Application Support or thereabouts. If you are tight on space, you might need to delete that from the Previous System Folder before doing the FCS install.
Thanks Rob, I'll look out for that. Would the same apply to an upgrade? We're running an older version of Studio now.

Generally if you click on a Google image, it gives you a good idea.
Hive question. So, I am looking at replacing my printer (as the old HP LaserJet4 boat anchor was left in CA). I rarely print. The most of what I print is one or two checks a month. But there are enough times when I want to print something that I am kick myself for not having one.
That said, I was leaning towards a cheap $100ish Brother laser printer. I got one for my old job, and the reduced toner thing it came with lasted well over a year, which means if I got it for home, I'd never have to buy a new toner thing.
But I've been looking at the scanner/copier printers. HP has one in that $120ish range. But it's inkjet. I was told (I dunno how long ago) that if you hardly print, the inkjet will dry up and have no shelf life for you. Is that still true?
Anyhow, the HP printer is the HP - Photosmart Multifunction Printer/ Copier/ Scanner Model: C4480
The Brother is the HL-2040.
This is for a Mac.
Thoughts? Opinions?
Thanks.
I had a compaq inkjet and the ink indeed did dry up. I didn't use it a lot. You have an N of 1 for this.
I have a Brother inkjet that I've used once a month, at most, and have had for about 6 months, and I've had no trouble with it. It prints beautifully and I haven't had any difficulty with the ink smearing or anything. It's the multi whatsis, Brother MFC-240C (scanner, copier, fax, printer) and it was on clearance for $100.00.
Omnis, do you use magnetic ink for your check printing? Versa Check (gp7.com) gives a printer with the purchase of magnetic ink and check blanks. The lowest end one is a bit of a pain in that the paper wiggles a bit, but it's working acceptably well for a free printer.
