Thanks for posting that, Kathy! I'm going to take a serious look at the Dell Studio 15. I've accepted that there is no perfect laptop for my purposes, at least not within my price range. I think if I got a computer with good battery life, the plug going bad wouldn't be as much of an issue, because then I could work with it unplugged when I'm using it as a true laptop (which I do a lot, since these days I write on the couch or in bed rather than at a desk) and only plug it in to charge it or when I'm at a desk or a table. I think the sheer amount of fidgeting and shifting position I do while at the computer is jiggling the cord more than it's designed to withstand, and that's why it's been such a problem with our last two laptops.
But? There's always a but. When this is over, can we have a big 'but' moratorium?

Anyone know anything about KVM switches, or more specifically, Belkin's Flip KVM switch? I installed it at the office for my Win2000 laptop and new-to-me Mac, and now the text/fonts on the laptop are ghosting and it's starting to give me a headache.

I use KVM switches and extenders quite a bit. Unfortunately Belkins have a horrible track record. Part of the problem may be the resolution that you're running the monitor at. Not all KVM switches are good at supporting all resolutions.

I was afraid of that. I have my res jacked up to 1680x1050--seems a waste of space to have it any lower.
ETA: Do you have any recommendations for a better switch?

Tesla went to a lot of trouble to make sure they were not explody. Basically the cells are seperated so that if one explodes or flames it wont set off the others.

Yeah, that's most likely your problem, the high resolution will really screw with the KVM.
I've had good luck with ATEN products for KVM switching and extension. They are a bit more expensive but worth it. Here's a page of some of their desktop switches. Check to make sure they can handle up to the resolution you want to use.

Dumb cell phone question: I have a Razr, with service through T-Mobile. I want to save all of my contacts from my phone to my Powerbook, 'cos I'm getting a shiny shiny iPhone soon. iSync doesn't recognize my phone (and yes, I turned Bluetooth on). Help?
