I had absolutely no success with the airport express I tried to set up a month ago. I returned it to Amazon and got my $$ back.

In both cases I would suspect some unknown defect that is not letting the wifi work, while not being something that the inner workings can ID.
It may be something as simple as internal disconnection of the antenna.

What model airport base station is it? Does it have amodel number?

I had my work laptop at home. So I plugged it in. Immediately it said there was a firmware update for the lil guy. Strange that I didn't get the notice last night, but whatever. Did the update. It took two tries, but it finally got an IP addy, and I'm connected! Perseverance pays off I guess.
