And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Speaking of GPS, I'm thinking of buying a handheld unit for the drive up to Canada. Renting one with the car would cost be about $120, so I'd like to spend less than $200 if possible. Any recommendations?

(I do have Google Maps on both the iPod Touch and the Treo - any way of using those instead of buying something new?)

He *still* didn't *share*.

You didn't ask.

Anyway, it's not so much pessimism and prudent realism. Honest.

Never fall in love with somebody you actually love.

Yeah, I've decided not to get an iPhone upgrade after playing with the new software.

Really, I don't see the point if you're a first gen owner. Another year will fly by and then who knows what goodies the 3rd gen will have to offer.

Further experimentation with the GPS on 2.0 (with a passenger operator in the car) reveals that it is capable of tracking movement without forcing a new pinpoint (by tapping the "pinpoint" button).

Accuracy suffers a bit while the unit is in motion, but it was quite impressive.

And with multiple pinpoints around town, I was nailing my location within 100 feet or less.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Nice.

(Still planning on a 3G, well, eventually -- but that's because I don't have a first-gen to noodle around playing GPS games with.)

I think within about a year, I'll actually get a 3G, but the need to get one this week has abated.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

GPS...less than $200 if possible. Any recommendations?

OK, taking the firmware plunge...
