Does the Mac in question have a FireWire port? You can get the files off of it by putting it in target disk mode. (Hold down the "t" key while booting)

nope, but it has (2) ADB ports! ;) I have the ethernet connection, and I can see it light up the airport when it first tries to connect. But then it times out.

Can the os9 machine see the internet?
You have to have both the Network control panel and the Appleshare control panel correct.
If you have Classic, you might even be able to connect with that!

OK, found "Network Browser", and it shows hope. It has a thingie for 192.168.1.1 which is the IP of the airport that it's plugged into. But not showing the iMac. When I try to open 192.168.1.1, it shows nothing. The other options are "AppleTalk" (empty), "Local Network" which has "Local Services" which is empty.
Curious, it has a "Connect to iDisk..." in a pop down at the top of the window... but of course OS 9 predates iDisk.

What is Appletalk set at? TCP/IP?
Also, if you go into your OSX machine System preferences, what is the IP showing for the ethernet setup in the Network section?
And is Appletalk turned on in that same section for your ethernet?
