Pretty cool except for the part where I was really terrified and now my knees are all dizzy.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

there isn't any switch feeling

It may be nothing more than a misaligned or broken plastic tooth inside the switch. The hard part is getting enough of the fan disassembled to get to the switch without breaking things. It all depends on the design of that particular fan.

If you have the time/tools/interest it might be fun to do surgery on the fan just to see what can be seen and done, but I would look on it more as an entertainment than a serious prospect for repair.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

I've done it too. It's easier than replacing the fan.

vanguard of the socialist Hollywood liberal homosexualist agenda

Does anyone have advice on a good DVD authoring program? I'm currently using Nero 6, which was working fine until I had to reinstall, and now I can't seem to keep the .mpeg files from appearing squished in on either side. (Of course, they're fine in other viewing programs.)

I'm not looking for a lot of bells and whistles, just something that can make DVDs without too much fuss.

Our wings are not tired

I tend to use DVD Studio Pro or iDVD, but those are both Mac.

You can't leave me to my own devices; my devices are Nap and Eat. -Zenkitty

Is it wrong, that I take quite a bit of schadenfreude from reading this November 2006 Daily ACK entry in which the author says he's sick of these "iPhone and flash-based MacBook rumors that never turn out to be true," and that he's just going to stop paying attention to them.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

You should ask him how that's working out for him. The schadenfreude experience will be heightened by pointing it out.

So... you're saying it *is* wrong?

All is well that ends in pizza.

I get a kick out of his link to his 2004 post on the iPhone where he says

Russell Beattie has been indulging in some fantasizing about the direction in which Apple might be heading with his blog post about the the "iphone".

I think he's dead wrong. The key thing about the sucess of the iPod, which I'm sure is clear to Steve Jobs, is that Apple broke into (invented) a totally new market and became the dominant player with a high margin product. The mobile phone market is anything but new, in fact, it's totally saturated and margins are vanishing thin. On top of this, his suggestion of "...a small version of OSX" is unfortunately totally off the wall.

Oh, as usual, dear.
