Anya, the Shopkeepers of America called. They wanted me to tell you that 'please go' just got replaced with 'have a nice day.'

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Yeah, P-C consistently registers between 34 and 38 megafonzies.

Hee!!

My favorite is the "helen" for beauty. 1 millihelen is enough to launch 1 ship.

Ha, nice.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Anyone here ever done any X10 home automation?

Our wings are not tired

I have, but it was at least 10 years ago.

Is it still the first choice for home automation, or has something else come to the fore? Not that I see myself owning a home in this state, more just idly curious about the state of things.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

my friend J says:

I switched from X10 to Insteon. Insteon is backwards compatible with X10 but has benefits like acknowledgments from devices (make sure the switch is *really* on (for the most part)).

I tend to think in terms of things like Crestron and AMX nowadays, but those are kinda overkill for home install I guess.

cereal

I have used Smarthome for some other purchases and they've been very good. They have both X10 and Insteon.

What sort of things did you use it for, ND? And your friend, Laga?

I read this and it makes me drool, but I'd be drooling over the house without the home automation anyway. What practicality does it have for the middle class home owner?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

OK, you guys, I think my procrastination paid off a little. After reinstalling iTunes and rebuilding my library last night, I have had it. Just now I got to find the computer I was looking at the other day, and see this deal: [link] ! It's got the 2 GB of RAM, which is good, but a smaller hard drive than the other, but still way more than I currently have (and am not using all of), which I guess helps the price. AND the rebate part is only $30, so if I fuck that up, I'm not screwing myself too badly. So I guess I'm doing that after work.

I now want to outfit my parents house with Insteon lighting for security reasons. It would actually be a really good idea--I wonder if it would be doable, moneywise.
