Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Hmm. I'm having some pretty fundamental comprehension problems. I'm looking at what seems a very simple list of instructions for Firefly on Ubuntu, but I get lost.

The steps are:

    • Install Ubuntu
    • Install ID3 tag support
    • Install mt-daapd
    • "point the server to your media directory then restart mt-daapd"

Where did I get a media directory?

I'm missing something very fundamental here.

Okay Mac heads. I'm looking at the laptop I want to pick up for myself, and my primary choice is between a 2.4 GHz and a 2.6 GHz refurbed Macbook Pro. The 2.6 costs $200 more.

My question is this -- am I really going to notice the 0.2 GHz for my $200?

Our wings are not tired

Are you looking at the 15" or the 17"?

17" hi-res. I could shave another $200 by skipping the hi-res display, but I think I still want that, even if it feels a little like the $1,000 spoiler on my car*.

(*I told ND this story once, but for those who don't know -- when I bought my Escort ten years ago, I paid $1,000 extra for the "Sport" package, which was the only package that came with 4-way remote door locks, instead of driver's-side-only. It also came with a spoiler, and the word "Sport" on the side. My friends used to tease me about my $1,000 spoiler.)

Hey. New board.

The hi-res is definitely worth it. The 0.2 GHz probably isn't, without other benefits.

Hey. New board.

Anybody with Yahoo mail: is the mail search working for you? Both the classic and new interfaces have been failing to let me search for the last 12 hours. Very annoying, as some of my old software registration keys and such are stored in there.

All is well that ends in pizza.

Where did I get a media directory?

this [link] seems to suggest that it's the default directory for external media volumes.

I've been planning on reading up on Ubuntu, with an eye towards installing it, so this gave me a reason to search a bit.

I suppose they wanted to differentiate between raw data and playable media.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Laptop shopping. So this is what I have now. I'm looking at this one to replace it. They seem the same level, right? Are there any obvious red flags on that Compaq? I am looking for something cheap that works. Basically I use my home computer for the internet and iTunes, and occasionally Word and Excel.

Here's a question. I've had this current one for about three years, I think. If I spent more, would the computer "last" longer? This one works, it's just a little poky sometimes and is too heavy to take anywhere.

Thanks for any input, y'all.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Damn. The price is certainly right, but I'm really not qualified to comment further.
