A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

when you have a POP account, it's like you have two different mail boxes with two different doors. copies of mail get put into both boxes. If you delete the mail in one box (your computer), it stays in the other box (your blackberry)

That's not necessarily true. Many POP mail clients will automatically delete a message from the server when you delete it from the client, depending on the the user's settings. However, my experience with Gmail is that it stays on the server unless you go to Gmail directly and delete it.

I didn't mention that my IMAP/POP thing was specifically regarding my gmail account when I was setting it up on the pda, which is what Hil is doing.

Hmm. OK, I did a couple google searches for info, and it seems that gmail works weirdly with BlackBerry (something about the way those two particular applications connect.) I found one place that says that if you delete a message from gmail through the website, then it just won't delete from the BlackBerry, you've got to do it manually, and another that says that it will, but sometimes it takes a while, and a few threads where different users report completely different experiences. I guess I'll play around with mine and see what happens.

yes, I had a similar experience with the iPhone. Setting gmail up as an IMAP solved the problem.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

I just deleted an email from my BB gmail. I refreshed gmail on my computer a minute later and it showed that it had been deleted.

ION, has anyone had the following itune/ipod problem? (Probably.) I downloaded a zipped file of mp3 podcasts to my desktop. I uncompressed the files and added the folder to my library on itunes. The podcasts showed up in my library. I synced my ipod. Played one of the podcasts. Synced my ipod again-- the mp3s disappeared from itunes and ipod. I added the folder again, rinse, repeat. It disappeared again! What am I doing wrong? I have it set to copy songs to itunes when I add folders, so it should be in itunes!

What I want is going the other way -- I want to delete an email from gmail on my computer, and have it disappear from my BB.

Same result when I just tried it. I don't see why it wouldn't be the case. Your email is sitting on gmail's servers. Maybe the blackberry cached the inbox for a time, but when it refreshes, it should be checking in with gmail.

Just tried setting up the BlackBerry to access gmail through IMAP, following the instructions on the gmail site, and now it's not getting the messages at all. I'm gonna try just starting over.

Looks like you've got it set up as IMAP. As Vortex said, if it's set up as POP, I don't think it works the same way

OK, I set it up as IMAP, following the instructions on the gmail site. Waited a few minutes, and the BB recognized it and got the most recent test email I'd sent to the gmail address. I deleted the email from gmail on the computer, and now I've waited about 15 minutes, and it's still on the BB.
