I've been thinking of going all cell. The problem is our sucky power company has occasionally week long outages, and our sucky rural cell phone towers have either no backup or less than 24 hours. I want to still have phone service when electricity is down.

My cable modem is doing this weird all the lights blinking together thing.

It probably could us a power cycling. Unplug the power, plug it back in.

If it's in imminent danger of failing, at least you have control over when.

OTOH? A piece of black electrical tape covers up annoying LEDs nicely.

....oddly, unplugging the power didn't do anything. I think it has a backup battery or something.

I found the reset button, after that. Now one light is solid, and the rest are blinking. There are like, ten lights. Think if I reset it nine more times...? :)

It could also be that your service is down. Did you call your cable or DSL provider?

Oh and Meara, I've seen reset buttons that give the results you describe. Try pressing just one more time.

Nope, the service is working--I'm online, watching TV, and can get a dial tone. It's very odd. I suppose I'll reset again, see what happens.

Augh. This is what I get for wondering. Shortly, my phone and cable weren't working (oddly, internet still was. WTF?)

Called Comcast. First off, you have to CHOOSE which one isn't working. I chose phone. The guy's solution was to have me plus a new phone directly into the modem, which seems to have worked. I'm not sure WTF is going on, but the day I start working from home is REALLY not the time for my home phone to go out. Grrrr.

If your cable modem lights are flashing, it normally means there's something wrong with your cable signal. Particularly if it's the LOCK light (not sure if your modem will indicate which is which).

Well, ALL the lights were flashing. And when I reset it, goes through that, then back to flashing. But apparently if I unplug the hookup to the phone, and just plug a phone directly into it, and THEN reset it, it seems to work fine.

Except that really doesn't work for me, when I want to have a phone and a TiVo and a phone in my bedroom. Not just one plugged right into the modem.
