Never fall in love with somebody you actually love.

If your cable modem lights are flashing, it normally means there's something wrong with your cable signal. Particularly if it's the LOCK light (not sure if your modem will indicate which is which).

Well, ALL the lights were flashing. And when I reset it, goes through that, then back to flashing. But apparently if I unplug the hookup to the phone, and just plug a phone directly into it, and THEN reset it, it seems to work fine.

Except that really doesn't work for me, when I want to have a phone and a TiVo and a phone in my bedroom. Not just one plugged right into the modem.

No, I don't think I will - me, quoting Captain Steve Rogers, to all of 2020

but the day I start working from home is REALLY not the time for my home phone to go out. Grrrr.

But, naturally, that's the time it has to go out.

It's the trickster god Technus' way of telling us He Is In Control.

He may sometimes be appeased by placing a 9 volt battery (or 6 AA batteries) in a small bowl outside your door at night as a gift.

Hivemind question:

I want to throw up a messageboard for a bunch of people to discuss one particular issue which would otherwise clog up our email boxes. Does anyone know of a good site (similar to mister poll or surveymonkey) which allows you to host a one-shot message board that users (with an emailed link) can post on without having to register or jump through any other hoops?

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

how many people are you talking about?

basecamp is a suggestion.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Set up a blog or livejournal and have them discuss the issue in comments -- note that either of these may get spammed up in the longer term if you don't have any kind of login and/or captcha hoops in place, but if you just need a quick place to discuss off-list, it's an easy setup and easy interface for your commenters.

I should add that this site should be free. Basically, I run a weekly basketball game for old folks like me, which has started to degenerate due to arguments over embarrassingly stupid things. (Does this kind of thing follow me around?) Anyway, I wanted to run a short "lightbulbs" for my group so we can hash out viable options to the problems we've been having, and then run a surveymonkey to get a (bullshit) consensus.

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

There are message boards like voy.com, which have threaded topics.
