So what are people's recommendations for external hard drives? And where to find the best deals?

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I've had good experiences with Western Digital and LaCie drives - I think LaCie are slightly cheaper these days, but I could be wrong. Dealnews.com should have links to sales.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

You will love the shuffle once omnis whips it into shape.

Oh good. I thought I'd heard people making fun of it for it's extreme minimalism.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Sean, I like Western Digital for the most part - I have/had 3 passport drives. One of the drives got fucked up, but the other 2 have been going strong.

Compassionately intolerant

Minimal = ease of use and light. I see walkers/runners with them every day.

I do love it! The only issue is not being able to see a display when I'm skipping around but hey it was free.

Our wings are not tired

I used to use a lot of LaCie drives, but in the past couple of years I've had bad luck with them. For production work I like the ones from Other World Computing. For quick drive purchases I've had decent luck picking up the cheap Western Digital My Book drive series. Costco often has them for a decent price.

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

I was doing a little research on the converter boxes for HDTV on an analog TV, and found this cool site: [link] They have a TV Signal Analysis section that is quite cool. You enter an address or coordinates, and it will tell you the direction of the television signals, and approximate signal strength of said signals. It confirmed my mothers apartment can't get any analog channels, but it looks good that she'll get some DTV ones. Now I need to pick up a converter box and find time to get down and visit her to set it up! Anyhow, thought I'd share a cool tool.
