okay. My new laptop has an HD DVD burner, but I don't have an HD tv, so I wasn't particularly concerned about it. Although, eventually, I'd hoped to upgrade.

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
I'm fed up with at&t wireless, and I'm thinking about switching cell service providers. Verizon and Sprint are out because I need to use my personal phone overseas, so that leaves me with T-Mobile.
Anyone have info to share? I've heard coverage is not as good as at&t, but is it really as bad as some people say?
I'm a cellphone almost-Luddite, in that I rarely see a reason to ever use mine (it's currently out of power, so I have to charge it up tonight, which is the first time I've done so in over a week) and have never ever texted anyone and definitely don't see me ever using that function. So I'm definitely not capable of helping you out with that question!
However, I do love my computer, for giving me access to all of you lovely people if nothing else, so I was wondering if I can get an opinion on this laptop from some of you more savvy techies? It'll be my first laptop ever and it's replacing my ancient desktop (which runs on Windows ME--feh!). I like the price and the fact that it has 2GB of memory.
I have T-Mobile, and coverage at my house is spotty, but I have no idea how it compares to AT&T. Perhaps this will help you decide. It seems to be accurate for the areas I frequent.
T-mobile sucks at my parents' house in Mississippi, but AT&T sucked in Pasadena. Both are pretty consistent in Manhattan (surprise!) I think it all depends.
We use AT&T in Pasadena and get fantastic coverage. Was that before it took over Cingular, Gris?
I have a Hd-DVD player. Oh well.

My issue was actually with Cingular. To be fair, when I say "Pasadena" I probably really mean "On the Caltech campus." It was college and I didn't have a car.
Huh. I suspect that they've added cell towers, because I have gotten great coverage all over town, including around CalTech. Maybe it's something actually on the campus, some Real Genius forcefield or something!
Dammit, Val Kilmer! Why you gotta be such a meany?
