IME, sad-faced clicky-noise making iPods are mostly good for trading in at the Apple Store for shiny new non-clicky-noise-making ones.

It is a 5th Gen. Was looking at current prices and cringing at the thought of paying to replace my baby.
I just can't see paying $299 for a iTouch and only getting 8GB of space when for $249 I can get and 80GB classic. Not that I have a spare $249 in my back pocket, but still.
I might be willing to give reseating the hard drive a crack for you if you could stand the wait and the postage.
If you have somebody closer or pro in mind, by all means.
Let me see what the Genius says on Sunday. Plus, I hit the airport next Wednesday and would really like to bring my tunes with me. We will see what happens.
eta - THANKS so much for your suggestions, links, and willingness to help.
Sounds like a plan. A good Genius should be able to do it in a jiffy.
bonny, there's a sent folder in thunderbird. are you using pop or imap?
Daniel, you seem always to save me.
I will try to get the hard drive out and let you at it. If it's fun for you, it's fine with me!
le nub...It's weird. I've yet to take Daniel's advice on the computer for which this is an issue, but I did find the 'make new folder' option he recommended.
The thing that flummoxes me is that I'm pretty sure that there used to be a sent folder...but it disappeared. While I know every dweeby screw-up says this...I SWEAR I didn't do anything to it!
eta: pop. I am pointing a verizon, a gmail and a onebox address at thunderbird. All are pops I think.
Suzi, have you tried giving your iPod a good thwack? I kept my alive for about six months with the thwack and reboot scheme, until the touch pad finally died. It won't last forever, but it might keep you going until you can get a new one.
