Suzi, have you tried giving your iPod a good thwack? I kept my alive for about six months with the thwack and reboot scheme, until the touch pad finally died. It won't last forever, but it might keep you going until you can get a new one.

I have many, many transformer blocks. They are all the same voltage. They are all made by no-name companies in China. In the course of the Great Office Reorganization of Aught Eight, I've lost track of which was which. Does it matter? Also, why the hell isn't there a universal transformer with lots of outputs, so we could plug all this crap into the same transformer? Is it a Chinese plot?
I have a large collection. Mainly because the all seem to be different amperges and ends on them, and some are reversed polarity.
So I'd like to rip an audiobook on cd to my iPod, but there appears to be some DRM in place. Anyone have any recommendations for shareware for ripping cds?
Do you have any details on the DRM? What is the audiobook?
It's a Chabon novel. The files are .cda format. I don't know what the DRM is, other than that Windows Media Player can't rip the cd.
Can you play it in a regular CD player?
I'm sure I can.
iPod update - it worked fine for the tech. Of course. But he said, based on the problem I described but he couldn't duplicate, it is basically a matter of time now before it dies for good. Sigh.
