Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
Duly marked.

I was thinking the article would be about a gravity lens, in which case the lens would be larger than our solar system....
the 5 stages of computer death
HELP. MURDER. POLICE!
My eMac seems to have committed suicide and I have no idea what to do. Other than slit my wrists.
The system won't start with the X dvd, a system 9 cd or multiple restart attempts.
I get either a freeze on the white screen with the grey apple, or the blue screen after that...OR, a black screen with a dos-like prompt that says something like
Darwin/BSD Bj-K-T's computer, local (console)
then a request for username and password then, either the system turns itself off altogether.
Once, I got:
SAM multimedia: read or write failed ASC = 0x3e, ASQC = 0 x 02
Has anyone ever seen anything like this?
Bonny,
There is usually a PMU reset button, I'm just not sure which eMac you have. the older ones had it right next to the ram on the underside.
You might also try holding the power button in for ten seconds to reset.
Also, try removing any peripherals, including network cables and reset.
It's an old trick, but you might try resetting the Pram [link] But I'm not sure it works on your model.
I just got a new laptop that came with Leopard (10.5.1), and it's telling me I can't open Safari with this OS. Does anyone know if that was just that my Safari version too old, or is it across the board? What browsers are people using with Leopard?
I just opened Safari 3.0.4 on my Leopard machine, and it's fine. I usually use Firefox. mr. flea uses Safari as his primary browser on the laptop (also Leopard.)
