I just scanned in a bunch of glass negatives, old family pictures. I want to flip the b/w so that I'll have the positive images. Is there a way to do that in iPhoto, or do I need to install something with more features? I can't find it in iPhoto, but I haven't explored all the menus.

I hate this. It's like betamax vs. vhs. Which format has the porn industry chosen? That might be the one that comes out on top.

I think I'm correct in saying the porn industry isn't decided yet (ie they'll do both).
I would hold back for now. Warner Bros are rumoured to be announcing which format they are supporting soon (they have done both up to now) so that may help things along.
That said, I've got a HD-DVD player for my Xbox 360 and I love it. Serenity HD with surround sound is the dogs bollocks. But if it goes Blu-Ray, it means I've got to spend too much money again.
Also, I recently saw It's A Wonderful Life on HD-DVD. It was fucking glorious - I've no idea how they mastered it, but the picture is outstanding.

I wouldn't buy discs in either format, to be honest - I'd say if you really want to watch HD movies, buy whichever player is cheapest in your local big box electronics store and rent the movies from Netflix. That way you don't risk having to replace your whole library if the industry goes the other way.
I've no idea how they mastered it, but the picture is outstanding.
I'd assume they went back to film neg and rescanned it.

There is an OSX program called "DropMedia Invert" that does it. It's crippleware until you pay the whopping $7 registration, though.

We don't have an extensive collection of DVD's, really. Mostly kids' stuff, in addition to my Buffy, Firefly, Wonderfalls & LotR boxed sets.
We're probably buying a PS3 but we obviously have a regular DVD player.
The thing that DH is wondering about is the map feature--which we saw advertised for HD DVD's--following action along on a satellite map. When we saw the ad, I thought he'd expire from happiness. He likes to follow shows and movies on a regular atlas so this interactive feature appeals to him. I just don't know if it's strictly an HD DVD thing or is available on both formats.

Thanks, guys. DebetEsse was able to flip them for me, and my computer had enough to stuff to try to fix the exposures and things myself. (I think I'm going to rescan a few of them, because there were two or three where, even increasing the contrast to the max, I couldn't get any facial features. They're here [link] , if anyone else feels like trying. My dad's got Photoshop Elements on his computer, so I'm going to give that a shot when I have a chance.)
