Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I'm guessing you could probably do it in The Gimp, in case you don't have Photoshop and don't want to pay for it.

All is well that ends in pizza.

There is an OSX program called "DropMedia Invert" that does it. It's crippleware until you pay the whopping $7 registration, though.

Now tagless for your comfort.

I wouldn't buy discs in either format, to be honest

We don't have an extensive collection of DVD's, really. Mostly kids' stuff, in addition to my Buffy, Firefly, Wonderfalls & LotR boxed sets.

We're probably buying a PS3 but we obviously have a regular DVD player.

The thing that DH is wondering about is the map feature--which we saw advertised for HD DVD's--following action along on a satellite map. When we saw the ad, I thought he'd expire from happiness. He likes to follow shows and movies on a regular atlas so this interactive feature appeals to him. I just don't know if it's strictly an HD DVD thing or is available on both formats.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

I want to flip the b/w so that I'll have the positive images. Is there a way to do that...?

IrfanView will do it, too.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Thanks, guys. DebetEsse was able to flip them for me, and my computer had enough to stuff to try to fix the exposures and things myself. (I think I'm going to rescan a few of them, because there were two or three where, even increasing the contrast to the max, I couldn't get any facial features. They're here [link] , if anyone else feels like trying. My dad's got Photoshop Elements on his computer, so I'm going to give that a shot when I have a chance.)

Never fall in love with somebody you actually love.

Cashmere, as far as I know there's no actual titles which use that functionality..

iPhone update due out fairly soon:

  • The ability to send an SMS message to multiple people is now there
  • Google Maps application can now pinpoint your location using cell tower triangulation
  • Google Maps can now display the Hybrid map view
  • You can now drag and drop application icons on your home screen
  • The home screen supports pagination
  • You can now add web bookmarks to your home screen

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I just don't know if it's strictly an HD DVD thing or is available on both formats.

That sounds like an HD-DVD feature to me. (One the major points in HD-DVD's favor is all the supercool interactive features it promises. Unfortunately almost nobody releasing movies on HD-DVD is taking advantage of them.)

If you're going to be buying a PS3 anyway, you could probably pick up a standalone HD-DVD player for under $200 (that would also play standard def DVDs).

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

Kevin, I came across this page yesterday, which has mapping tools it says works on an iTouch or iPhone.

That's too bad. DH will literally pull out an atlas while watching a movie. He is itching to see this feature in action.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Looks like RIAA is going after personal use:

[link]

Now, in an unusual case in which an Arizona recipient of an RIAA letter has fought back in court rather than write a check to avoid hefty legal fees, the industry is taking its argument against music sharing one step further: In legal documents in its federal case against Jeffrey Howell, a Scottsdale, Ariz., man who kept a collection of about 2,000 music recordings on his personal computer, the industry maintains that it is illegal for someone who has legally purchased a CD to transfer that music into his computer.

I don't understand this at all. What are they going to do? Go after everyone who owns an ipod?
