Assume there is a hypothetical 42" HDTV costing about $1000.

Plasma vs LCD. Educate me.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

CNet breaks it down.

The shorthand is typically that Plasmas give richer colors and deeper blacks, but that LCDs have a sharper image.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

Also, there have been tests, and usually once people get lost in whatever is on they don't notice minor differences of that sort. Like all averages, this is misleading -- I'll bet professionals like Drew do notice, along with certain types of fans who are well represented among the Buffistas.

It's pretty much a preference thing. Go to a store with a lot of sets and take a look at Plasmas and LCDs that are playing the same program. I was a big fan of Plasmas for a long time due to the deeper blacks and richer colors, but the latest crop of LCDs has me considering one as an eventual replacement for my older EDTV 42" Plasma.

All is well that ends in pizza.

We have some plasma monitors at work on the walls displaying stats on calls incoming and open tickets. They are starting to show some image burn-in.

It's weird, but most people don't use them to display fairly static images.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

There's also a few weird issues, one of which is that high altitude negatively affects plasmas but not lcds, but that's probably not an issue for you, although it is for me.

Just call me "Siouxsie Shunshine".

I need to get a new cell phone and am debating the pros/cons of various models. I've been drooling over the iPhone since the debut.

I'll probably have to give in to my techie/gadget fascination and get an iPhone. The worst part will mean shifting back to AT&T as a carrier. I don't know what I'd get otherwise.

Anyone have a recommendation on a good cell phone?

Hey. New board.

Whoever has the crashing Treo (sorry still browsing on the kindle in nowhere, LA and can't easily scroll back) are you using a 650 or what? Because my 680 has never crashed in 10 months, though my 650s were horrible... Maybe upgrading your Treo is the solution. And Tom, is there Missing Sync for Leopard? I can't stand iSync for Palms.
