Here's the specs on the memory for that machine:

Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-6400,DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 2GB per slot.

No you do not need to install a matching pair on this machine, but you might suffer a slight performance hit since you won't get the benefits of dual channel memory.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-6400,DDR2 PC2-5300

Does that mean the slots can hold either the PC2-6400 or the PC2-5300?

you might suffer a slight performance hit since you won't get the benefits of dual channel memory.

Good to know. Thanks.

(I swear, I consider myself pretty tech-savvy, having had two separate support techs tell me I knew a lot about computers "for a girl", but this laptop stuff is kicking my ass.)

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Computer tech guys still say stuff like that?

Maybe it's just the ones who don't get out much....

I love that cartoon.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I believe they meant it in a nice way. Admittedly, I was calling Alienware, which is a specialized retailer and probably doesn't get as many women calling in as places like Dell and HP.

But yeah, I said "BIOS", and they were impressed.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I'm now running FCP on this dinky little Sony display, and I can't stop laughing. It's like I just went back in time 10 years.

Maybe that's why they don't get out much.
