All is well that ends in pizza.

Typo Boy, Do you have any firewalls or AV running that can be turned off for a bit?

Have you tried leaving the SMTP password blank for now?

Hmmm. Is the name of the profile the same?

Perhaps Thunderbird has some entries in the XP registry that are causing the problem. (I don't think t5bird saves data there, but hey...)

Try setting up a new account.

Or go to

Tools>>Options>>Privacy>>Passwords>>View Stored Passwords

Delete any passwords related to either the new or old account. Even SMTP.

Deleted all passwords. What I get is the connecting to comcast., then connected to comcast, then wait forever. Even when I have no saved passwords. (And the only saved password was the right password in any case.)

The new profile was created under a different name. There were no passwords left over. The only one that was in there was created when I sent a test message and it asked for the password, and I checked the "remember this password in password manager box". But deleting it did no good.

If I try to click "get mail" a second time, I get a "folder is being processed" message. But even deleteting "Popstate" does not fix this.

Yeah, and it is definitely Thunderbird specific. Outlook - no problem.

Ah found the problem (though not a permanent solution) via a forum search. Turning off McAfee via the menu does not work. You have to go to "services.msc" and turn off the redirector.

Ach. Thank you McAfee.

Glad you licked it.

Yeah, but apparently turning off the redirector turns off the firewall functionality. I understand there is patch, not posted on the internet you can only get via tech support.

WTF? Only through tech support? I wonder if it's ahem-able somewhere?
