If I try to click "get mail" a second time, I get a "folder is being processed" message. But even deleteting "Popstate" does not fix this.

Yeah, and it is definitely Thunderbird specific. Outlook - no problem.

Ah found the problem (though not a permanent solution) via a forum search. Turning off McAfee via the menu does not work. You have to go to "services.msc" and turn off the redirector.

Ach. Thank you McAfee.

Glad you licked it.

Yeah, but apparently turning off the redirector turns off the firewall functionality. I understand there is patch, not posted on the internet you can only get via tech support.

WTF? Only through tech support? I wonder if it's ahem-able somewhere?

Yes, that is the patch. My redirector is started and email is getting through.

A direct link to that patch:

It makes sense that they would put out a patch quickly. They have had redirector problems for years, but when it starts disabling pop3 email, the most common non-web based protocol for email...

Radio Frequencies Help Burn Salt Water

ERIE, Pa. (AP) — An Erie cancer researcher has found a way to burn salt water, a novel invention that is being touted by one chemist as the "most remarkable" water science discovery in a century.

John Kanzius happened upon the discovery accidentally when he tried to desalinate seawater with a radio-frequency generator he developed to treat cancer. He discovered that as long as the salt water was exposed to the radio frequencies, it would burn.

Holy crap.
