But that's always true.
Exactly! If you go by that logic, you'd never buy any shiny new toys.
Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!

Did Jobs talk about the Starbucks thing?
Starbucks will let you browse the iTunes store for free. Also, your iTouch will always show the current track playing in that Starbucks (and, of course, give you the option to buy it and download immediately).

I know!
But I am (kinda sorta) willing to wait and see what the next gen iPhone is like.

Um, not sure I'd feel real comfortable carrying it in my purse, particularly if it were on vibrate.
Starbucks will let you browse the iTunes store for free.
I love that. They'll let you SHOP FOR FREE!! How generous of them!
Well, I think the ability to instantly buy something they're playing would be cool. Otherwise... yeah.
Anyone else think 6$/hr for WiFi access is way too expensive?
Someone tell me if I'm in danger from my apartment. I turned on a lamp, and the bulb blew out with a bright blue spark (fairly new bulb), at the same time my APC unit beeped, and my computer shut down but didn't turn off. When I tried to shut the computer off, the APC beeped again. I tried to turn on another little lamp, but it won't come on. The red light on the surge protecter it's plugged into is off. I tried pressing the switch to off and then back to reset and nothing happened. I went to turn on a different lamp (it's quite dark in here) and it too blew out with a blue spark. I don't know what that means but it probably isn't good.
I've unplugged everything on that circuit except the surge protecter and the APC, which are plugged in behind the huge metal filing cabinet and I can't easily reach them. The computer only turned off when I unplugged it from the APC.
What do I do? How serious is this?

What do I do? How serious is this?
Call your land lord. I think it's serious, but the same thing sort of happened to us on Saturday, and I still won't mess with it.
An electrician once told me that blue sparks are not as dangerous as green sparks...which sounds very Harry Potter, I know...He said this after I'd just gotten green sparks out of my bathroom plug. He came rushing over in a way that my landlord NEVER rushes to my aid and declared amazement that the place hadn't burnt down years ago. (Landlord had done the wiring himself...'nuf said.)
The blue sparks were relatively okay in his book. I get them pretty much every day.
I am torn between getting a 160GB iPod (because i really *do* need the space, just for music even) and the iPod touch
Wr0d. But I'll almost certainly end up going with the touch. I can handle taking half my music (10 GB) and one season of TV (instead of all of my Buffy) around with me.
Or I might just wait for the next generation, which will have 32 GB, which is my sweet spot anyway. But I probably won't.
If I do it, I'll probably bite the bullet and add T-Mobile WiFi to my cell phone bill. That way Starbucks is paid for for me.
