Now that I have an Xbox One, I got a handful of Blu-Ray Discs (on sale!) that came with digital download. Ultra-Violet. But it looks like they are only accessible via various portals (Vudu, Flixster, etc). I was hoping it was just a file that I could put on my media server. Am I missing something? Is there a way to add the files so I can load them in to iTunes as well as watch on my Xbox?

Ultra-Violet is junk in my experience. You can't locally store the files, so when that service eventually dies, so do your digital copies.

Reading into the details more, it looks like you get rights to the movie, as time goes by, the rights change, and you may have to pay to access it?!? And then one of the movies, "Gravity", one you really want to see in HD, is only available in SD. What the? Not a good alternative.

BR drive is on its way. Got it on sale. Will rip the BRD instead of UV.

I have used UV with Vudu and like it fine, Vudu being one of the better digital movie sites in my experience. I bet you can get Vudu on the Xbox; it is almost everywhere. You can use the Vudu app on phones,tablets,and PCs to cache the files locally but they are still locked down: that's pretty much par for the course these days unfortunately. I do recommend keeping/ripping the blu ray if that's your comfort place, but for casual netflix-style streaming of movies you have purchased, Vudu works just fine.

Obviously video/audio quality is generally inferior, but convenience bests quality for me usually and my TV/sound system aren't that great anyway.

Yup, Vudu app for the xbox. One of the titles has a flixster code, so Vudu doesn't see it, even though UV does. The biggest complaint is, now my library has half dozen items in a completely different location. Meh.

Should I be taking the free upgrade for Windows 10?

How old is your computer, sj? And do you have programs that will run better under 10? If your current system is still working fine and doing what you need it to do, then I wouldn't upgrade.

A couple years old and running fine. TCG's is slightly older.

If you've checked that your RAM and CPU can handle 10, the biggest thing to worry about is whether any programs or peripherals will not run in 10. I bought a 10 laptop about a month ago when my old laptop started developing overheating issues, and it doesn't see my external DVD player. I haven't tried hunting down new drivers for it 'cause I'm lazy. I have heard of people who have used certain programs for years that aren't supported on 10.

I upgraded my computer to 10 quite awhile ago and never had any troubles. OTOH, I don't use Windows very much. Mostly I use Windows when I'm fixing other people's computers.
