omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

Poking around more, I found VLAN pref's in SYSTEM PREFERENCES>NETWORK>gear thingie>MANAGE VIRTUAL INTERFACES. Sure enough, there are NO virtual networks created.

How can a port have two IP addresses?!?!

:: shakes wee fist at the gods ::

This machine has 2 network ports. I've switched to the second. I give up. Too many fish to fry.

If anyone knows how/why a VLAN appears to be set up, although not in the pref's, and how to remove it, I'm happy to accept your help in erradicting the gremlin. But I'm not wasting anymore work time chasing ghosts.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Factory reset my phone after the lollipop upgrade frelled the battery life and caused it to overheat from doing just about anything. Dear god I have a lot of apps to reinstall. (It's automatically restoring itself so all I have to do is wait, but it's taking foreeeeeevvvvvveeeeerrrrrrr.)

Also just realizing how much I depend on Lastpass and logging into shit with Facebook! So until those two reappear I kind of can't do anything.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

The lollipop upgrade is what's finally going to force me to an iPhone. I'm done with android. I'm having the same problems as you, and when I tried to back up the important stuff on my phone, it took three days. I couldn't delete text message threads, and I finally gave up on the factory reset after not being able to back everything up.

I do need to get Rob's text messages off of my phone and somewhere secure, because I'm pretty sure I can't import them on an iPhone. If anyone has any recs for that, I'd appreciate them.

I'm not sure I have the heart to go back to iOS. The upgrade to iOS7 was what sent me to the Android side in the first place!

I guess it's a mark of progress that we now have supercomputers the size of coasters in our pockets that are such a commodity we complain about them all the time?

I have an iPhone 5 for work. It's been infinitely less trouble than my S5. Battery life is better, no overheating, text message threads larger than 1000 messages are easier to delete, and it's easier to back up and restore. iPhones also play better with the audio system in my work and personal vehicles. I used to be such an Android fan, but lollipop did me in. All the customization in the world isn't any good for me if my phone can't make it half a day.

Hivemind question:

I have an installation CD that I have to install on a colleague's Surface Pro 3. I was planning on creating an ISO of the CD and uploading to the cloud, then having my colleague download to his Surface. Any suggestions for programs he can use to read the ISO and install on his Surface? Is there a better method to use to install CDs onto CD-less computers?

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

I use daemon tools lite for mounting disc images.

Thanks DX. I just used daemon to create the ISO, but I'm a little nervous about installing it on my colleague's computer since he may accidentally trigger some of the 3rd party software.

I did a little digging and it looks like Windows 8 can mount ISO files natively without 3rd party programs. Can anyone verify that? I'm using Windows 7, but the Surface Pro 3 runs 8.1.
