Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

I'm slowly learning my new laptop and its quirks, and I'm having a problem. Almost every video I try to watch (youtube, buzzfeed, etc.), I just get a green screen. The sound is fine, so I can listen to what's going on, but no picture. I am so very not computer savvy, I don't even know where to begin to try to fix it. Any suggestions?

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Sounds like a plugin problem. Do you have the current version of Flash? Can you try a different browser?

I'd assume that my Flash is current, just from the age of the laptop, but I'll check. And I haven't tried any other browser. Will look into that.

starts taking notes of things to check at home tonight

I tend to use Chrome to view flash content and Safari for everything else, as Chrome embeds its own Flash player and aggressively updates it while Safari just tells you it is out of date and disables Flash. With Safari you have to manage the update yourself and Adobe updaters are pretty intrusive.

Web browsers are more resistant to Flash exploits than they were a few years ago for technical reasons that I will happy bore you with if you're interested.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I had forgotten that Chrome keeps you up to date on Flash. I think I'll use your method so I won't have to deal with annoying Flash updates on Safari.

(I'm one of those who switched to Safari when I got Yosemite, because they claim Safari now uses less power and I wanted longer battery life out of my MacBook Pro.)
