And Kaylee, what the hell's goin' on in the engine room? Were there monkeys? Some terrifying space monkeys maybe got loose?

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

An interesting note. Not sure if it's a fluke, accident, or what. But it seems when listening to Pandora on my FireTV, there are no commercials. I've been listening all day, and not a one. If I stream from the website on a computer, or from the iPad app, a fair amount of commercials. But none from the FireTV. Anyone else notice this? Not complaining. Just thought I'd share.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Adobe’s Digital Editions e-book and PDF reader is spying on you.

Adobe is gathering data on the ebooks that have been opened, which pages were read, and in what order. All of this data, including the title, publisher, and other metadata for the book is being sent to Adobe’s server in clear text.

Adobe isn’t just tracking what users are doing in DE4; this app was also scanning my computer, gathering the metadata from all of the ebooks sitting on my hard disk, and uploading that data to Adobe’s servers.

I'm not surprised they're tracking what pages get read/how fast etc, but scanning te other books on y computer? What??

My Tivo has died again. I'm trying the old "turn it off for a while and see if it gets better" trick, but just in case, I'm looking around for other DVR options. We still watch enough "live" TV (that I want to be able to timeshift, pause, rewind, skip ads, etc) that ditching the DVR altogether isn't really an option.

Has anyone used SimpleTV or Tablo? Honestly what I really want is the Roamio OTA but I don't want to pay the $15/month channel guide fee!

[eta, we are cord cutters, so a cable company DVR isn't an option either]

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I quite liked Elgato/EyeTV. I have generally kept the TV Guide channel information service (I think you get a year free with the software?) but it's supposed to work without it.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Anybody working on a Wordpress site?

someone in my office decided we need a SECOND site in Wordpress (don't ask me why). I've been stuck with doing the updates. The information we received from the designer/vendor (who has given us erroneous instructions before) was that, after finalizing a page, hitting "update", you have to CREATE a backup and then RESTORE the backup. This is taking about 15 minutes for EVERY.SINGLE.PAGE. I'm going crazy ... it's not like I don't have other work to do.

Anybody have any suggestions as to how to make this piece of crap go faster?

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Your vendor is full of shit. WordPress saves backups of posts/pages automatically as you write. You absolutely don't ever, EVER, have to create a backup of the whole site just to make a new post (that's just for stuff like moving the whole site to a new server); and even if you did, it would just be a click in the edit screen, not restoring the entire site.

(And if you really want to be a bitch you can tell 'em you heard that from someone who's been one of the core WP developers for the last 8 versions now.)

It's not the site - it's EVERY SINGLE PAGE has to (according to the full-of-shit vendor) have its backup created and then restored. And every time a page is edited, I have to go through the same f*king process ... which at this point is taking close to 15 minutes for EACH page.

Now it could be that they've done something cute so that it is necessary ... but the information they sent us originally had incorrect information about the image size, so I don't know if they're shitting us or did something to make it harder to do.

WHY we needed a second site I will NEVER understand. I'm just left holding the bag, so to speak.

EyeTV doesn't come with a TV tuner, just component in. (Which it then converts to H.264 and somehow still has the nerve to call the outputted video "pristine" so...)
