In Win7, is there a way to stop an opening program window from taking control from a window I'm working in? I will start a program, then go back to another program to work while that program opens. When the program pops up, it yanks control to itself, and if I'm typing something, data can get entered and I might hit enter before I realize where the data is going.

Very annoying!

Is it typically a single program, or is it many?

If there is one in particular you have to open you can edit its shortcut to run the program minimized.

1. Right-click on the shortcut of the program you want to start minimized and select Properties.

2. Click on the drop-down menu under Run.

3. Select "Minimized," then click the OK button.

The next time you start the program, it'll start up minimized.

I bought a new Mac Mini a month ago to use as a media computer. I've connected it to my TV via HDMI and it works OK, except when I play movies in iTunes the display is way too dark. For everything else the brightness is fine. What's weird is when I call up the little pause/play/etc menu while playing a movie, the brightness level is fine, but when the menu goes away the display darkens considerably.

Calling up the right-click menu brightens the display as well. The other night I opened the right-click menu in the corner of the screen and left it there for an entire movie so I could watch it without the excessive darkness.

Any ideas? The TV is an LG, if that makes any difference.

How's Samsung when it comes to monitors? Is $160 a good price for a 23" LED? It seemed to have the best quality among the monitors at Staples, and I may get an additional unspecified discount on top of that. The base is a bit clunky to put up in my living room, but I don't want to get OCD over that.

I have several Samsung monitors at work, and they're great. $160 for 23" sounds like a very good price for me - I think the OLED ones we use here generally run about $300.

tommy, I think I did have an issue like that when I had my Mini hooked up to my LG TV, when I get home I'll take a look at my settings and see if I can remember what the deal was. Something about dynamic display, maybe? I think it was something I changed on the TV, not in the Mini settings.

Caveat: I moved the Mini to have it's very own monitor, so I can't experiment.

If this monitor cost the same as this one, which would you recommend? I'm tending away from the former because it only has HDMI input, and this will be my every-device monitor, but otherwise the key differentiator (.6"?)escapes me. And I do like the idea of the narrow stand, because it will be in the living room with a lot of other junk.
