I have a 4TB drive connected to the iMac on my desk in the office. That is where the iTunes library is housed. It's close to full and I think I'm going to need to migrate to a desktop Drobo for this soon. About 27,000 of my music tracks are also in the iTunes Match system so that I can get them from my Laptop or iPhone as needed. I have another iTunes library on the studio iMac that has around another 15,000 tracks that I didn't want to sync with Match. All of these are accessible from the Apple TVs in the household, as well as from all of the computers.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I cobbled together my network solution, but in the end, I can access all my tracks directly via the desktop whose library it is (ergo iTunes on all authorised machines), the Apple TV, and Twonky (ergo all the UPNP devices). I've not actually looked into Match.

A 2TB Time Capsule.

Ah, I see. I'm running both OS X and Windows backups to one of the NAS devices, so it's part and parcel of the same thing. Some irritation getting AFP to play nicely, but the QNAP seems to be best suited for it. I wish one of my network storage devices did everything well, so I could consolidate, or the strengths were distributed enough that each could have its own separate function, but I'm a ways away from that.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I thought the limit is 25,000.

I have almost that many.

I'm thinking about buying one of those when I retire my 2008 Mac Pro. Have you been happy with them?

I thought the limit is 25,000.

That is for tracks not purchased through the iTunes store. I also have a lot of music purchased through iTunes and that does not count against your 25,000 limit.

Have you been happy with them?

I have a Drobo 5N on the network that has been working quite well. I've been been through a drive failure and the auto repair worked like a champ. The Drobo alerted me of a bad drive, I pulled it, popped in a replacement, it repaired the files and it just worked.

Me too. Cool.

What brand/model of drives do you put in the 5N?

I think I have Seagate drives in there. Most 3 TB models. There might be a WD drive in there as well.

So I ended up getting a 15" RMBP off-the-shelf. It's the one with 16GB RAM and 500GB SSD.

Very shiny! Although everything appears too large. Guess I gotta mess with settings a bit.

eta: Huh. Using a scaled down resolution rather than what's supposed to be the best for the Retina Display looks better, size-wise.

eta²: Gods, my old MBP was getting slow. It's so nice to have a 'puter that scrolls smoothly while using Feedly and Facebook.

Ugh, Android podcast managers are CRAP. Downcast, why have you forsaken me?

Unless I'm missing something, BeyondPod doesn't have a way to rank podcasts for smart playlists unless I create categories for each one.

DoggCatcher *kind of* has this functionality, but it doesn't work as well as Downcast did, and the interface is hideous.

Basically, what I want is the ability to set priorities and then put feeds into a playlist that will always play the oldest unplayed highest priority podcast next. Downcast did this beautifully. I haven't tried PocketCasts yet because it doesn't have a free trial version.

I also want the ability to skip forward and back in 15 or 30 second intervals to get past ads and boring bits.

Help?
