Jayne: Captain, can you stop her from bein' cheerful, please? Mal: I don't believe there is a power in the 'verse that can stop Kaylee from being cheerful. Sometimes you just wanna duct tape her mouth and dump her in the hold for a month.

Macworld tends to have good guides. It might help if you thought about what you want to do with it. Safari is a good web browser but I also use Chrome. Flipboard is also good for browsing the web.

What problems are you having?

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

So far the hunk of junk is ... well, it's not heavy enough for a paperweight ....

Seriously - I can't get it to do much of anything. I'd HOPED to use it to read books and play games. I hit the app store and managed to get iBooks installed. yay. Then I tried for Kindle and Nook and it wouldn't let me install either. Went back today and it let me install Kindle, but not Nook. And now the Nook app doesn't show up at all.

I open Safari and get a message that it can't display the page.

I managed to get it set up so it isn't sitting there requiring me to go through set-up. yay. And managed to change the wallpaper for the home page. big whoop.

I pull up the App Store and it shows ... two screens of stuff. Go to games and it pulls up two screens of stuff. Not anything I'm interested in. I got some emails from Apple welcoming me. I managed to take a picture of my desk; got someone in the office to show me how to delete it, although I'd hit the garbage can a bunch of times and it didn't get rid of the picture.

can you get kindle books now? note: you cannot buy kindle books with the app. You have to get the free web app through safari to buy books. let me know if you want help with that.

Not syncing with anything. Trying to get it to do something.

I understand I'd have to download ebooks from Amazon to read with the Kindle app. I kind of wanted the Nook app, since I have a Barnes & Noble membership card, but now it's disappeared completely from the App Store.

Progress: I managed to get Safari to find a web page, an actual one, that didn't display the "can't display" message. Then I managed to close the web page. I've managed to download a solitaire game and I'm recharging the thing. yay?

Our wings are not tired

If you are getting messages that Safari can't display pages it sounds like you might be having connection problems. Is it a WiFi only version or does it also connect through a cell provider?

Something definitely sounds amiss in the app store, you should have four tabs across the bottom, Featured, Top Charts, Genius, Purchased, and Updates. Those should lead you to pages of apps. If you are on the Featured tab on the bottom of the screen you should have four buttons at the top which show you all categories, then Games and Education, and finally a More category which should lead you to a list of other categories.

It's WiFi only. I'm in the office where we have an ambient WiFi. I don't think I get all those tabs - it is a mini. I am getting a few things done - it's just extremely frustrating when it refused to let me have the Nook app and then ... it disappeared completely.

Part of the problem is expectations - I've worked on Windows machines so long that I can get going with one, even with a new program, fairly easily, so being completely baffled by the workings of this thing is a new experience. And I had expectations - people kept telling me it was so great, I'd love it, and so on. My bad, old boss said, "it'll change your life" ... and if my life's going to be changed, I'd prefer to have it changed by someone, not some piece of electronics.

sigh ... but I guess I am making some progress. A co-worker who has one (and loves it, the bitch) has promised to help me tomorrow. Maybe after a little time off, it'll be more cooperative. (And, in case you hadn't guessed, the "bitch" was meant facetiously.)

Thanks!

Woe to the fucking wicked.

I've got an iPad mini, wifi only, and I've got buttons on the bottom and top of my app store. Feel free to IM me or whatever. I'm not sure what I can tell you or explain to be helpful.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

So I'm having the same issues with The Old Reader as I did with Feedly - namely, it's not syncing between computers. Is there some setting I need to change so that posts I read at home don't show up again at work?

I'm making progress ... I guess. Managed to take a photo and send it. I can play solitaire and free cell.

I still can't find the Nook app.
