Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
I just got an iPad mini. And I haven't even been able to complete the set-up. It won't let me access the local WiFi network. Won't let me access iTunes, which they suggest as an alternative if you can't get on any other WiFi. When I accidentally got onto the wrong network, it wouldn't let me key in a user name (which I started to do, thinking it was on the right network). And it seems to require a LOT of pressure to accept anything - I mean hitting it HARD to get it to accept.
nevermind ... got a co-worker to help me. jeepers ... that was complicated
Ha, having just burnt off a bunch of my spare bandwidth on downloading ALL THE UPDATES for my umpteen billion Adobe products yesterday for the new laptop, this is deeply funny to me.
Can anyone recommend a free OCR tool that can convert a handwritten scanned-to-PDF document into editable text? (Preferably a spreadsheet but just text would be fine.)
The few free online tools I've tried so far have all been total fails.
Major WordPress attack is underway [link]
Moral: Make sure you don't have a user named "admin" and pick strong passwords!
Is there ANYPLACE on the web where I can find tutorials on who to use this (very expensive, unusable) iPad mini? Apple seems to have nothing but sales pitches for how wonderful it is.
The only plan seems to be to make an appointment at one of their stores ... and I'm not going to have any time I can until May 3. At least, not a time when I'm free and they're open.
If this thing hadn't been a gift I'd send it back and pretend I never even thought of it.
Macworld tends to have good guides. It might help if you thought about what you want to do with it. Safari is a good web browser but I also use Chrome. Flipboard is also good for browsing the web.
What problems are you having?
So far the hunk of junk is ... well, it's not heavy enough for a paperweight ....
Seriously - I can't get it to do much of anything. I'd HOPED to use it to read books and play games. I hit the app store and managed to get iBooks installed. yay. Then I tried for Kindle and Nook and it wouldn't let me install either. Went back today and it let me install Kindle, but not Nook. And now the Nook app doesn't show up at all.
I open Safari and get a message that it can't display the page.
I managed to get it set up so it isn't sitting there requiring me to go through set-up. yay. And managed to change the wallpaper for the home page. big whoop.
I pull up the App Store and it shows ... two screens of stuff. Go to games and it pulls up two screens of stuff. Not anything I'm interested in. I got some emails from Apple welcoming me. I managed to take a picture of my desk; got someone in the office to show me how to delete it, although I'd hit the garbage can a bunch of times and it didn't get rid of the picture.
are you syncing it with your computer? sounds like you have a syncing problem.
can you get kindle books now? note: you cannot buy kindle books with the app. You have to get the free web app through safari to buy books. let me know if you want help with that.
