Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Okay, for those of you who iTunes tv, I have a problem. I got my usual notice last night that an episode for my season pass was available for download. As I do, I went to iTunes site, and my previous downloads came up in their little listy format, which has the column of categories on the left. There are usually two links in that column, a "downloads" link with a wheel that starts turning as soon as the page loads. If I click on it I can watch the progress bar as the new ep downloads. On the rare occasion the "downloads" link doesn't come up automatically, I click the second link, "purchased." That brings up everything I've bought, and clicking on it brings up the "download" link, which proceeds to, you know, download.

Neither of those links appeared. I went back to the email and clicked on the "click here" link, which brought up a dialog box saying I needed an application, gave me the outline form of my hard drive and commanded "choose". My iTunes is in my Music folder, so I followed that tree, and cannot find iTunes 10.6 either in that folder, or anywhere else on my hard drive. There's an older version I never deleted, which, when I tried to use it, informed me I have a later version which makes this version inoperable. Fine, okay. *Where*?

Since I last downloaded from iTunes, we have set up a home network with our Sony Media Player, the tv, and both laptops, and attempted to play my iTunes files on the tv, with no success. My suspicion is that in making that attempt I borked something. I can't find any iTunes .exe files anywhere, other than the older version that won't work. In that outline on the hard drive, I get a list of SPN seasons, but a click on any of those season links gets "contains no folders." I can still play all of the eps when I'm actually on the iTunes site. I've gone through and disconnected my laptop from the home network, but it hasn't changed a thing. I've got six more eps paid for on the season pass, and though I can download them elsewhere, I'd like to get the ones I paid for.

Questions: -do any of you know what I borked and how to un-bork it? At this point I'm thinking I just need to download and install iTunes again.

The "click here to start your download once you've logged in to iTunes" link is offering to download iTunes 11. I've heard bad things about iTunes 11--are any of you using it, and how do you like it? If I download 11, it will supercede any remnants of iTunes 10 still on my hard drive, right? And will enable downloads again?

-Alternatively, does anyone have a link to somewhere that still has iTunes 10.6? Or have any idea where I can go to get it? I've been quite pleased with it for a couple of years, and with the bad I'd heard about 11 was prepared to stay with it.

And thanks, really, for any help. I was kind of afraid to bring my rock-and-chisel problem into the thread that deals with matter transmitters and flying cars, but I have no choice. Help me, Obi-wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.

And also? That's a helluva post number!

Is it possible to pull off laptop keys, clean under them, then replace the same keys? All the websites I've been checking talk about replacing with new keys. Is it just assumed that some small little plastic thing is going to snap upon removal?

I haven't done it often, Connie, but putting the same keys back is what I have always done.

The laptops are both Windows machines, Beverly?

Yes, they are.

I went ahead and dl'd 11 this morning. I didn't get the prompt or the autodownload when I restarted and went to iTunes, and 11 looks and functions a little different so I had to learn my way around a bit. I finally lucked across a "download" button, and boom: progress bar. I have the latest ep in my season pass, and six more after this one, and right now I'm really cranky with iTunes. This is the second rather large screwup I've had with them, and I'm tired of that dance. If I want pre-dvd copies of tv eps, I'll ahem them somewhere.

Did you have some advice? I'd be glad to listen--anything to help get this bitter taste out of my mouth.

No, I don't know the Windows version of iTunes at all. I wanted to be helpful, but I can't. Sorry!

Hey, thanks for the thought, though. I'm done stomping and flinging soft and unbreakable objects around the room, now. We're all good.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Anyone know how to protect an Excel 2007 worksheet so that I can let my freelancers select from the drop-down menus I've created, but not accidentally delete them? In Word there's an option to "restrict access to filling in forms" which is what I want here, but I can't find the equivalent option.

[edit: Nevermind, I think I actually don't need this. Yay.]

Speaking of frustration with iTunes... in a related note... has anyone else JailBreak their AppleTV? I'm thinking of doing that tomorrow.
