Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

the page flipping animation has benefits in user comprehension

That's not mutually exclusive as I understand it.

To quote erinaceous (in her complete definition in WSJ):

A skeuomorph is a design feature copied from a similar artifact in another material

The page metaphor fits that criterion, as does the notebook metaphor.

Windows 7 question: I have my wallpaper set up so that it's iterating through a folder of 70 images. After a while (Days? Over a week or so?) it stops iterating, and when I go into Personalise it's set to a single picture instead of "Slide Show" and the theme is no longer "ita" (Either of those--why are there two now?) but Unsaved Theme.

I'm setting Slide Show to

  • Picture position: fill
  • Change picture every 10 minutes (The awkwardness of "change picture every 1 minute" is striking me now, but at least it's singular, albeit easier because not dynamically generated.)
  • Shuffle: yes
  • When using battery power, pause the slide to save power

Is it that last option? I use my laptop off battery maybe once a month or two, but I do regularly put it into sleep to transport to and from work. But seeing the "pause" there I assumed it would restart once back on mains, not create this Unsaved Theme which I keep deleting to no avail. What is the what?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

So, I tried to add the number of notes to posts on the Good Stuff [link] but it's clearly not right -- I'd want it to be higher up and also actually be a working link. Anyone know how to fix it? Do I need to give you more info than that? I just googled up the code and don't actually know anything about html.

HTML isn't that hard, but changing templates is "fun" no matter what the environment. Rather than risk the insanity of learning the templates like LJ, I have been cherrypicking the templates instead. So I don't even know the degree of difficulty.

Being lazy is definitely something to consider, but I can have a look once I'm back at a desktop.

Speaking of not being at desktops, does anyone have a suggestion for how I can look at the HTML of a web page that can only be loaded inside the hospital, where I never take anything but iOS (Touch, but not upgraded to the newest version yet) and Android?

I did install an Android HTML viewer app, but the page is encrypted (and the certificate is expired to boot). I thought I had managed to pull something off with the Dolphin add on, but I can't find what I had "determined" was the amazing solution while on a great deal more dilaudid. Such are are the vagaries of the opium den.

Just ask that one guy that was here that time.

I like that that theme is pretty on the top, and then plain. Maybe I'll poke around for a theme that has notes in it already and a place to put a picture up top, and then hope to license a Scola (or other!) nature pic?

What do you think about this? [link]

I like the abstract, vaguely bokah look to that, and I always like purple.

Yay purple!

Also, we could put a different background image, I think. Eh, it's fine!

I mean, Yay purple!

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

So, audio ADC (analog to digital conversion). How good is it these days?

I'm thinking of buying one of those USB turntables. Is the ADC in those pretty good? About ten years ago I dated someone who said most ADC stuff sucks--she insisted in using her dad's ADC/DAC conversion thingie (a stand-alone device) to make mp3s from LPs.

Thoughts? Should I get a USB turntable? A regular turntable and use my computer's ADC chip? A lot of USB turntables are around $100--is the overall quality good? Do they make stand-alone ADC/DACs anymore?

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

I have a friend whose only 'puter is an iPad. Is there a way for me to get him, and for him to view large video files that I've... acquired? In this case, the video is MPEG-4 in an avi wrapper.

He's not very tech savvy, so it's important to keep it simple on his end.
