Is that what dropbox is for? I've only heard it being used to transfer files?

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

files on dropbox exist on dropbox servers, you can have web access, and on any machine (and smartphone) where you install the app.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

there are straight backup solutions too if you want those but dropbox might be what you need.

So, am I right in thinking that iCloud is not really a storage option even though it says it has storage space available?

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

It has some kind of system for photos, I think, but I haven't tried to use it. Afaik, it can store documents as long as they are iWork generated. So, limited usefulness.

ah, okay! That's what I was trying to figure out and the Apple website was useless. I'll check out the other backup solutions.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I've just recently discovered that a) I can only put website files on my Dreamhost account and b) except for one heavily caveated FTP user explicitly designated as a backup account for personal stuff.

I hadn't thought to segregate like that. I mean, I bought some of their hard drive space, and I was going to put (totally legal) stuff on it as I wished so I could get to it from anywhere on the internet.

Huh.

And they're pretty clear about stressing their backup isn't a reliable backup and might disappear at any time. So...you're encouraging me to gamble? Why even bother?

Android users--what's your favourite file manager? I reflexively download Astro and File Expert, but I'm not in love with either of them. Fuck, I just want something that looks like Windows Explorer. And in-app SMB integration would be great (File Expert has a separate window, Astro had a separate app--I'm trying to use it on a new device, and it's not seeing shit on the network--on my Tab it throws an error code).

It will help you figure out if adding more RAM will help.

Well, since I'm using pretty much all my memory (only 30MB of free memory), I guess it would.

Is this something I can do myself? Or do I bring it in?

The status is NOT quo.

Lisah, ND and I have been using Box (different from Dropbox) for our cloud storage, and it's fabulous. There's yearly fee depending on how much storage you need, but you can share with anyone or access via the web or using Box Sync through your finder. Love it.
