Oh, sorry hon! My tivo lost its HDMI slot, and I was pissed about that.

Bonny, that adapter has worked with every monitor I've ever tried. I think you're safe to buy it without a trip to the store.

The extra pins in the middle are for dual link DVI, which you need for 30" monitors. I suspect the adapter accepts those pins in case you're using a dual link DVI cable for a single link DVI monitor.

Maybe they do that, in the hopes of reseting your feelings towards TW.

Of course not, it's TW. Nothing works with TW!

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Woo hoo, DH told me the Tivo was working again this morning! (After being left unplugged all night.)

Which makes me think the problem might be the power supply, which would be much cheaper to replace than the hard drive.

Ann, that's a ferret.

When our Tivo was slowly dying, it would freeze two or three times a day. Unplugging and plugging back in helped, but not for very long.

Rob, you are totally right. I schlepped all the way over there to have the genius tell me that the adapter would work fine.

ARGH. My cry is a cry of lamentation.

The upside, I suppose, is that the tech ran a diagnostic, so I know the system works. It also turns out that the seller loaded Mountain Lion and Word 2011. That was nice. Also, this mini uses a remote. That was a nice surprise.

Does anyone have a favorite online back up option for a Mac?

I've always been hesitant to expose my stuff, but to get my files from this 10.4 machine to the new Mountain Lion box, I'd need a LOT of discs. Time Machine isn't available to me, and I do not have an external hard drive.

Any advice?
