Buffistechnology 3: "Press Some Buttons, See What Happens."
Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
P-C, did you get my e-mail with my book list, btw? I wasn't sure if your profile addy still works.
Oh, I did! Sorry for not responding. There are definitely a few titles in there I may want to borrow at some point, but for now, I've got some free legal stuff to try out, although they aren't as nicely formatted as a proper ebook would be.
When you "archive" something, you can always retrieve it as long as you have Wifi, right? It's just not taking up space otherwise? Not that I have space issues right now.
So when I got my MacBook three years ago it had a battery life of about 4 hours (if I wasn't watching video). Now I'm down to about 2.5 hours, sometimes even less.
What's the mechanism for replacing a Macbook battery? Do I have to take it to the Apple store, or can I do it myself?

Yes, though this only applies to things from the Amazon store. When you're putting something on there from another source, you don't archive - you delete.
Just so you know, though, many of the books available from Gutenberg, etc, are also available for free through the kindle store. Same version, just as free, but you get the advantages of a book from their ecosystem, including whispersync and cloud-saved notes/highlights/bookmarks, and the ability to archive the book. I always check their first for a free out-of-copyright title, since the convenience is so high.
I save many books but the ones I "archive" if they are not amazon books are on calibre.
Consuela, don't know about current ones but it's always been quite easy in the past.

Oooh.

Oh! Good to know! I'll check to see whether the stuff I got is on there. Thanks.
(Hey, all that Sherlock Holmes IS on there! Awesome! But, huh, that edition doesn't have a linked TOC, when the Gutenberg version does, I think. Weird. Might be worth the two or three bucks for a nicely formatted everything version.)
(I am jealous of your 32GB)
I was going to go with the standard 16GB, but then I saw that Amazon is giving $50 off with all of the Samsung Galaxy Tabs, so I decided to splurge and get the bigger memory. Doesn't hurt, and could help if I start loading up lots of books and movies/tv shows.
I will keep books on my Nook and TV elsewhere, and just make do with 16GB. Hmmph.
Anyone here shopped at Monoprice? I saw them come up in a cheap cable discussion, and they seem golden.
I've used them many times. Their cables are not the highest of build quality - the optical cables I got from them are kind of annoying to bend and tend to come out of the devices they're connected to, but work great when not jostled, and I got several mini-plug to mini-plug cables to connect devices to Aux jacks in rental cars, all of which died pretty quickly, while the bright pink one we got at Radioshack for maybe double the price is still going strong. But their HDMI cables have been good to me, and I've used them for speaker and TV brackets happily in the past. So basically, I've got mixed feelings.
Can anyone tell me why my iCloud doesn't reconcile with my iPad and iPhone? I thought that if I updated on one, it would automatically update on the other. I updated a bunch of my contacts on the phone, but it hasn't translated to the iPad.
I'm having the same problem with my Safari bookmarks, Vortex, so maybe there is a problem with iCloud (it's worked for me fine before) or it's very slow or something. I actually spent significant time trying to fix it today, and thought it was okay, but now it is not again...
