Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I unzipped a dmg file on my mac and then tried to mount it. Mounting froze. Force quitting finder didn't work--it never quit. I tried to restart, but I'm just getting the spinny wheel. I'm unused to having to have to troubleshoot macs. Other than continuing trying to restart, what's on the menu?

Well, a couple more ons and offs took care of that, but I realise I don't know thing freaking one about troubleshooting OS X, and I'm rapidly getting out of touch with Windows as the version numbers increase and I use it less and less.

This is how we turn into our parents, isn't it?

So, I bought a new iPhone, but I can't figure out how to make it sync with the computer. Grrr!

Color Nook is not-quite-a-tablet; you can't watch videos on it, take pics or vid, but it's very, very close.

Email, webbrowsing, FB, Twitter -- all of that you can do.

Since T-Mobile is switching to AT&T in March, and we have an unlimited text, talk and data plan that will switch over -- and since I'm up for an upgrade in March and am looking to upgrade to an iPhone then, hopefully -- we decided that the Nook Color was the most logical choice, since really, if we're at home, D's got a netbook and I have the laptop, and um, iTouch. If I DO upgrade to an iPhone, I will be trading in the Touch, which is a 2nd gen with 8 gigs.

But we both LOVE the Nook Color. IMO, the color clarity is even better than iPad2.

My sister has the iPad1 (won it at work), and she was telling me that her main issue with it is the lack of Adobe Flash, which was not resolved with the iPad2 release. I'm leaning more towards getting the Samsung 10.1, which most of the online reviews are saying are about as close to the iPad2's quality level as any of the Android-based tablets. I'd like it if the tablet had an SD or USB port, but I don't think the Samsung has that, nor does the iPad.

I'm going to stop by Best Buy tomorrow night and take a look at both of them.

Is that the Galaxy, Kathy? If so, I've heard good things about it from a couple of techie friends. IIRC.

Yeah, it is. Cnet really liked it, thought it was pretty comparable to the iPad but thought it felt a bit cheaper than the iPad (I'll have it in a case, so how it feels in my hand isn't as important to me, I think). When I check it out in person, I'm definitely going to look into what ports it has available. It does have better cameras and better resolution than the iPad, so that's something. It's only about $20 cheaper, though.

You might want to check out the apps available through Samsung, first, though.

Also -- could CNET's reviewer have used sexy as an adjective MORE?!

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Kathy,

your sister is correct, but from what I have heard from tech writers, having and using flash can drain the battery pretty quickly. (pros and cons here). I don't really miss flash video on my ipad2. But I go to youtube or watch videos I purchase or convert for the ipad.

There are a couple of browsers for the ipad (and iphone) that purport to show some flash. Maybe icab browser is one of them?
