the programs I use, you can control the thickness of the line, so I would say it provides more control. easier to see around it in comparison to other styli.
Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!

Paging NoiseDesign! A while back you were talking about selling off some of your old machines - do you still have any of that stuff around?
Yes, I still have some systems for sale. I haven't had a chance to do anything about selling them since I've been so buried with work.
As for online services, I think I briefly had an AOL account, but only to see what it was all about. I did BBS systems in San Diego from 1981 to 1989. When I moved up to Spokane, there was no option for a local ISP, so I had Compuserve for a while, when the user names were just strings of numbers. I then had a Delphi account so that I could get shell access to the internet. I know at one point Netcom was my primary ISP, then I had a local ISP in San Diego between undergrad and grad school, it was CTS.com, and you know it was back in the dark ages of the internet because they gave me a static IP address on a dial-up account. I kept that account long after it made sense to keep it just because of that coveted static IP.
I still have an aol account because I can't get my mother to stop using that email address. I use that address for the retail stores that like to email every day.
Is there any reason I shouldn't get iWork instead of Office? New computer with OS upgrade means I need to upgrade Office, but I see that iWork is cheaper. I use Word and Excel, but I don't do anything complicated with them. No formulas or anything.
"Dns server isn't responding"
???
And now it's back. Too many windows and tabs open?
Wait, nope, taskbar is telling me I have internet access, diagnostics says same thing as before about dns server.
I eta Second stab at googling found an easy fix.
aurelia,
I really like iwork - especially for things not too complicated. If you do not have a lot of excel spreadsheets with complicated formulas or long ass word documents that need master documents structure, etc. I think iwork is just fine for your needs.
I agree. I quite like iWork. It's not quite as powerful as Office, but it can do most things just fine. Pages in Page Layout mode is a good Publisher replacement too.
It will take you a little while to get used to them. You might have to do a tutorial or two to get comfortable. But otherwise I think they're great.
Cool, thanks.
Can pages in page layout mode handle high resoluion graphics and produce high resolution pdfs as output?
Is there any reason I shouldn't get iWork instead of Office?
My sister & sister-in-law just got MacBooks. I told SiL that she was better off with iWorks cause it is so much cheaper and you can export the documents as Word documents to send to people with Windows machines.
If you don't need all of the Office apps there is no reason not to just go with iWorks.
